Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
217 PM MDT Mon Aug 4 2025
.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Wednesday night...Isolated to
scattered thunderstorms and showers today as a shortwave moves
through the area. Stronger storms will remain closer to the
circulation, currently in eastern Oregon but moving to central
Idaho tonight. Storms will be capable of outflows up to 50 mph,
small hail, and locally moderate/heavy rainfall. CAPE is
limited, and most models seemed to be too bullish with the
thunderstorm coverage in the early afternoon. Breezy and cooler
than normal conditions today become mild with temps about normal
Tuesday through Wednesday.
LONG TERM...Thursday through Monday...A mostly dry cold front will
slip through the region on Thursday as an upper trough tracks
through northern ID. The southern reaches of precipitation chances
(15-25%) briefly extend into Baker County and the w-central Idaho
mtns, otherwise it remains dry through the weekend and into next
week. Temperatures on Thursday and Friday drop to around 10 degrees
below normal and will be accompanied by breezy northwest winds.
We`ll then see a warming trend through the weekend in response to a
building offshore ridge.
&&
.AVIATION...Generally VFR. Scattered showers/thunderstorms
this afternoon, mainly across e-central Oregon and w-central Idaho
through 05/00Z. Stronger storms will be capable of outflows up to 30-
40 kt, brief moderate/heavy rain, and small hail. Mtn obscuration
and MVFR-LIFR in precip cores. Surface winds outside of storms: NW-W
5-15 kt. Gusts 15-25 kt through 05/00Z. Winds aloft at 10kft MSL: W
10-20 kt.
KBOI...A 20-30% chance of a shower/thunderstorm this afternoon,
which could produce gusts to 30kt, brief heavy rain and small hail.
Otherwise, VFR. NW surface winds through this evening.
